Lesson 2 – Dance

Posted by: Jane on: February 25, 2009

Dancing.  How fantabulous is dancing??

I adore dancing.  I dance alone more than with people.  I even dance in my car (if that is possible?) my friend Shai will probably understand this – we often sit and bob to whatever is on the radio, whether it be the horribly amusing “If You Seek Amy” or something strange and classical on our special station with the woman (presumably) that sounds a bit too much like a transvestite.

With everything such as starting uni this year and such, I’ve decided that I want to start bellydancing.  I mean how cool?  I’d be impressed if I met someone who could out-belly Shakira.. or similar.

And speaking of dancing, I have already decided on my “first dance” song that will be at my wedding (over-prepared? Hasty? Of course not…) which, admittedly, isn’t really a first dance song as far as I know.  It’s more of a confused angsty song in all honesty, but for some reason when I am listening, my heart feels like exploding with happy.  Me and husband will dance all old fashioned with cute twirls and whatnot.  I’m excited anyway!

I also adore the video clip to this song.  It is called “Chasing Pavements” by some British chick called Adele.

Before I die:

-Dance on a pavement.  Horizontally.  Not in a bad, seemingly sexual way, in manner of Sharon from Kath & Kim,  of course..

:)

I think old frumpy business men should do crazy dancing more often.  Because they don’t is probably why they have overly creased brows and heart attacks.

What songs do you like dancing to?..

Lesson 1 – Be decisive!

Posted by: Jane on: February 24, 2009

Indecision is something I’ve always battled with tirelessly throughout my life. This issue came to an obvious head on one of my last days in enchanting Udaipur (India), when I had ventured, alone, into the marketplace – in search of presents for friends and family back home in Australia.

I wondered inadvertently past a jewellery shop that George and I had gone into once upon a time about a week before, when she was looking for a piece for her mother. The shopkeeper and I caught each other’s gaze, and it was almost as if I had stopped and said “Oh, I’m here!” and he had replied with his eyes “Yes, this is the place! I know you, come in..”

He welcomed me in and got me a chai, and he ended up telling me everything that no one knew, some things that I had been refusing to acknowledge even to myself. He said many things that day, but here is a small exerpt of what I wrote down that day about myself, instructions almost, if you will:

1. Don’t think as much.

2. Don’t plan so far ahead – if you chase it, it will run faster.

3. Get all your shit and issues out of your system. Only then will you be happy.

4. Become more decisive

5. Stop hating yourself and hurting yourself – pamper yourself more.

His name was Suriya, and I promised, after visiting him for a few days, that I would make it back to give him my email, but I never did. I can’t help but wondering if he somehow knew I wouldn’t.

Anyway, that’s besides the point. I am going to be more decisive, and in honour of the decision I have made, I have decided (!!) to start this blog, a completely new one that will document my life lessons.

Couldn’t hurt right?

  • None
  • Jane: um. who ARE YOU!
  • Yusef: I like to dance with you sometime in the autumn of my life. Maybe we can dance under the stars in Lebanon.
  • shaisy: I enjoy dancing with you Janey. You even dance when you eat. You didn't mention THAT pigger. Hooray for bellydancing!
